Praava Health wants to expand its territory in emerging markets with a focus on South Asia. The upstart payer, founded in 2014 is raising money through investors and building its footprint in both India and Bangladesh in an attempt to challenge the market share of the few payers available in the market including the new entrant Top 30 U.S. payer Metropolitan Group, known as MetLife.
“In the next five years we would like to build out almost 16 centers across Bangladesh. We are currently raising $15 million to help us do that,” Sinha said. Praava Health’s Founder, Chair, and Chief Executive O6cer Sylvana Sinha told Health Payer Specialist. The payer-provider has 330 corporate clients, according to its website. The middle-class population among Bangladesh’s 170 million citizens is growing and currently only about 1% of the population have health insurance and most are paying out of pocket for health-related expenses, according to Sinha.
